Fun at the Park

Most of our kids (Owen wasn't having it) but as a bonus we got a kid in the picture that belongs to none of us...so it evens out.
These two babies were born 6 days apart and they could be twins. They are both cute, chunky and have a head full of hair.

Joyce

My friend and co-worker Joyce lost her battle with cancer. She fought hard and was very brave. Joyce was a wonderful woman. She was a supportive friend, a fiercely devoted parent and a great co-worker. I am so very happy that I had the chance to know her and her family these last 3 years.

Here is the announcement from the paper:

Joyce Fowler, died July 1, 2009. Joyce was born on May 6, 1959, in Grandview, Mo.

Joyce was an active woman who loved bowling, playing pool, cooking, but most of all spending time with family and much more. Joyce will be greatly missed by all, she showed unconditional love and support to all who crossed her path.

Joyce will now lay at rest and be greeted in heaven by her son Charles III, biological mother, grandparents and many other loved ones who proceeded her in death.

Among her survivors are her husband Charles, Jr. her three daughters, Annamarie, Tabitha, and Tiffany; grandson Jordan, son-in-law Justin and Chris, her parents Linley and Dorthie Duncan of Springdale, Ariz., and several siblings, relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Joyce's life is set for 1p.m., Friday, July 10, 2009.

The Weekend

Mihiret's 4th of July hairdo.

Getting ready to watch the fireworks from up on the hill.

The last pictures are from the kids' daycare parade and party. They put a lot into this day for the kids and we all had a wonderful time!

"I don't want swim lessons mom!"

Well spoken child....especially since every one can tell from this picture that you hated every minute of it! Now I can actually USE swim lessons to get her to be good all day long...it is great!

T.S. is beside himself excited that he is in the BIG KID POOL! He may even go off the diving board! (Note to self...make sure his trunks are on tight that day because the boy has no butt to hold them up otherwise)

The San Francisco Edition

Kindra and Ryan were kind enough to let us stay with them. I let them know beforehand that it might prove to be awesome birth control. All said and done I don't think we deterred them from having babies someday...
Justice was so excited to see the Golden Gate Bridge. He said he wanted to see the bridge that is always getting destroyed in movies..ha ha ha!
Crazy kids playing in the ocean.
Mihiret was so excited to see the ocean for the first time. On a side note...in Mihiret land...she counts flying over the Atlantic as having been there. She just could not handle the thought that the boys had been somewhere she had not....mmmmm....Ethiopian leadership.
Since I am cold blooded I hung out on the beach while Kindra and Ryan braved the frigid ocean with the kids. Although it was chilly the kids were all in (and therefore so were Ryan and Kindra..thanks you two).
Mihiret enjoying the beach.
Looking out over the city from Twin Peaks.

Checking out the Bay Bridge from Twin Peaks. While on the bridge the kids were NOT allowed to distract momma. I have not been cut off that much since we left Vegas. Donkey drivers everywhere.

Mihiret and Tristan standing at the top of the Pink Triangle.
The masses gathering for SF Pride. I wish we could have seen more but with kids we settled for a drive by. We could hear the party going that evening. It sounded like a good time. Next year Lindsay and I will have to head in sans children.

Thanks to copious amounts of vomit we were able to make an unexpected stop in Tahoe. It was a beautiful day on the lake. Tristan felt much better for the remainder of our journey home : )
View driving away from the Tahoe.

San Francisco is such a great city! We had a wonderful time. I think I may be forever jealous of the Farmers Market that Kindra and Ryan have in their neighborhood. So many kinds of mushrooms, basil, tomatos....mmmmmmmm. Thanks so much for letting us invade your space!

This and That

This is my newest project! It turned out super cute!!
Not sure why the kids climbed into the cupboard. They wanted to see if they would all fit...like a clown car. What we found is that only 2 of the 3 kids can fit in at one time...good to know : ).

My newest hair attempt! I think it looks great. Mihiret was not sure she liked it until she received a whole bunch of compliments at school. It is pretty easy so I am glad that she likes it.

Embracing Her Beauty

Two great things happened yesterday.

1. Mihiret actually wanted to keep her hair down. In the last six months she has had a hard time embracing her beautiful curls. We were so excited that she was willing to let them be free.
2. She put on her Ethiopian dress on her own. usually there is a significant amount of bribing involved to get her in ANY dress...especially her Ethiopian ones.

Ah....what a beauty! : )
